Albert Ronald Alabovitz September 23, 2008 Sam S. Morganti September 24, 2008 Sam S. Morganti of Pittston passed away Wednesday at Highland Manor, Exeter. He was the husband of Helen Sciandra Morganti. They were married 73 years.

Born Jan. 1, 1912, in Pittston Township, he was the son of the late Carmel Morganti and Maria Dominick Morganti. He attended Pittston Township schools. He worked as a coal miner and later in construction. He was a member of St.

Albert Ronald (Ron Allen) Alabovitz, 71, of Scranton died Tuesday at the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit in Community Medical Center, Scranton.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Reap Alabovitz. The couple celebrated 48 years of marriage June 4. Born in Dickson City on July 1, 1937, son of the late Albert and Pearl Trojanowski Alabovitz, he was a graduate of Dickson City High School, Class of 1955. Before retiring in 1999, Ron's voice echoed throughout the area on the "Ron Allen Sportsline." He started his career in broadcasting at WSCR in Scranton in 1958 and became a at WARM in 1959. Ron was known to always give his listeners a reason to tune in.

His adversarial, opinionated personality made him a man people loved to argue with. He was a walking sports statistician and could answer any question. For even some of the most obscure statistics, he would have an answer. Ron began announcing harness races at Pocono Downs in 1971 and later was invited to relocate to the Harrisburg area as a public relations director at Penn National racetrack. That didn't last long, because Ron's heart was tied to "Warmland" and he returned to WARM the following year.

Ron received many awards during his prestigious career, including the Pennsylvania Associated Press Award for best sports reporting in 1982 and 1991; the Pennsylvania Broadcasters Award in 1988, 1989, 1991 and 1992; the United Press International Broadcast Award for the best sportscast in Pennsylvania in 1986; the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame Meritorious Achievement Award in 1988 and the Pro Baseball of Northeastern Pennsylvania Media Award in 2002. Ron's voice will live on at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y, for his interview with Edd Roush in 1988. Throughout his career, Ron also published many sports articles and was a regular contributor to a variety of sporting publications, sometimes under his pen name of Bruce McClarren. He pub- as a PFC during World War II. He served in Patton's Army as a bridge builder.

He received Good Conduct and Service medals, Victory Medal and two Bronze Stars, serving in Normandy and Germany. He was preceded in death by brother, Peter Morganti; sister, Mary Timonte. He is survived by sons, Carmel Morganti, Norfolk, Angelo Morganti, Pittston; grandchildren, Michael and Mark Morganti, Sammy and Natalie Morganti; greatgrandchildren, Carmen and Caitlan; sisters, Helen Morganti, Pittston Township; Gertrude Cefalo, Jenkins Township; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from Gra-ziano Funeral Home 700 Township Pittston Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m.

in St. Rocco's Church, Pittston, with the Rev. Daniel Schwebs, pastor, as celebrant. Entombment will be in Deni-son Community Mausoleum. Friends may call Friday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Svetz September 24, 2008 John J. Svetz, 93, of Marcy Court, Newtown section of Hanover Township, died Wednesday in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Funeral arrangements are pending from George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 105 N.

Main Ashley. lished his first book, "The Happy Handicapper," in 1974. Ron's image was captured while interviewing Gerald Perry of the Kansas City Royals while covering spring training. A listener called in one night to let him know his photo was on the back of Perry's baseball card. Ron became an avid Baltimore Orioles fan while living in Baltimore after high school and he continued to root for his team up until the end.

Ron enjoyed big band music, movies and traveling extensively Ron's incredible knowledge didn't end with sports. He was a trivia buff and was everyone's "go-to guy" especially when it came to music and movies. He loved his dog, Bear, and his cat, Lucky, and they will miss him very much. His wife took great care of him for many years. His pride and joy was his daughter, Laurie, who was so proud and loved him very much.

Also surviving is a daughter, Laurie Alabovitz, Bethany He was also preceded in death by his grandmother, Gertrude Casey Trojanowski; and his aunt, Anna Alabovitz, who were both instrumental in helping him become the man he became. A blessing service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Eagen-Hughes Funeral Home, 2908 Birney Scranton.
