If you're tired of trying to design a personalized unique home or garden using the same elements available to everyone else- these may be for you. How often does a chance happen to buy a slice of iconic history?
This is a beautiful set of FOUR Antique cast concrete Corinthian capitols from the World Famous San Francisco landmark City of Paris building. There are a total of four pieces. Each piece is a corner section from the facade on the City of Paris Building which ruled over San Franciscos Union square for most of the 20th century. The first photo shows two of those pieces arranged as a pair against a wall.
We discovered these capitols in 1980 during the demolition of the historic City of Paris building in San Francisco. We chose these since they were in the best condition. They've been used them both inside in pairs against a wall as well as outside under a gazebo. As a Bay area native these have always brought back fabulous memories of my childhood...watching the Giants at Seals Stadium, Landing my 6' sailboat on the Leslie Salt island, Banana Splits at Blum's and, of course, visiting the City of Paris Tree in the Rotunda at Christmastime. WOW! Sadly, time catches up with us all so I'm hoping these will find an appreciative new home.
Of course, Neiman Marcus built their flagship San Francisco store on the site and was pressured by preservationists to install the rotunda dome salvaged from the City of Paris. Here is a link from the Library of Congress photo archives which show the exterior of The City of Paris building and the massive columns with their capitols. You can go further into the archives if interested which document photos from the City of Paris' prime.

It is hard to imagine the danger of having these massive concrete sculptures mortared in place high atop the storefront in earthquake country. There are still remnants of the original bricks and mortar wall on their backs.
Regardless of how you use these, one thing is for certain....Everyone who sees these will be blown away.
Each capitol measures approx 33" tall x 22" wide x 20" deep, so grouped as a pair they measure almost 45" across at their widest point. These photos show them on uneven gravel, but the tops line up on concrete or interior floor
If seriously interested send me an email I'm happy to answer any questions or post more photos. I know there are many horror stories of buying and selling on Craigslists, though as we've begun to downsize we've sold lots of things on Craigslist and have met nothing but nice people. Any annoying problems seem to originate through scam phone calls or texts. Hence, the email contact below. To ease any concerns that this listing is legitimate, I listed these also on my Ebay account which has a 20+ year track record of sales with 100% positive feedback. We do prefer completing the sale thru Craigslist to avoid Ebay's high fees. That Ebay listing is #204836029407....the heading title is : City of Paris Cast Concrete Columns.
Feel free to check that out and ease your mind.
Please email with questions- no texts, (Sorry - too many Craigslist Scams)
