She was the widow of George W. Bird. She was a long time active member of First Church of the Brethren and was Sunday school teacher of the Dorcas class and an active volunteer worker at Friendship Manor. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frederick S. Swann in 1954, and a grandson, Michael Hoal in 1976.

She was the beloved mother of three daughters, Virginia S. Emmons and husband, Howard of Roanoke; Margaret E. Schomisch and husband, Ronald J. of Fowler, June S. Hoal and husband U.A.

(Lefty), of Roanoke; twelve grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Minnie W. Crowder, of Roanoke. DIXON, ROBERT E. LEXINGTON Robert Edgar Dixon, age 63, died Saturday, May 3, 1986, in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Mr. Dixon was born August 26, 1922, in Rockbridge County. He was the son of the late Frank McClung Dixon.

Mr. Dixon worked for Burlington Industries, in Glasgow, for 45 years. He was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, where he served as trustee. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ellen Wilson Dixon; his mother, Mrs.

On September 22, 1928, she married Mr. Galanis and they came to the United States in 1929 to Roanoke and moved to Harrisonburg from Roanoke, where she has since resided, Mr. and Mrs. Galanis owned and operated the Famous Restaurant from 1933 to 1957, when they sold it.

She was a member of Metamorphosis Steeros Greek Orthodox Church in Charlottesville. Mr. Galanis preceded her in death on December 20, 1980. She is survived by two brothers, Dimitrios Minas Daskalakis, both of Greece; three nieces; three nephews. Funeral services will be held 3:30 p.m.

Wednesday afternoon from the chapel of Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home. Father Nicholas G. STEWARTSVILLE Melville S. (M.S.) Thomas, age 91, died Saturday at the home of a nephew, Frank T. Thomas, Route 3, Box 318, Vinton, with whom he made his home. He was a member of Roanoke Primitive Baptist Church, an Army Veteran of World War and a retired farmer. Mr.

Thomas was also a member of the National Association of the Sixth Infantry Division, the American Legion Post the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and the Disabled American Veterans. He also for many years was a claims representative for the American Legion and was instrumental in locating the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Salem. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Ella Jamison, of Callaway, and Mrs. Betsy Kozack, of Holiday, a number of other nieces and nephews.
